Preserving Character with Modern Comforts: A Bespoke Loft Conversion
When a client with a growing family approached us, their need for additional living space was clear. Equipped with approved drawings and planning permission, they envisioned a loft conversion that would meet their expanding needs while preserving the unique charm of their home. Maintaining the property's character was essential, so replicating original features, including matching the staircase and cladding the roof with reclaimed slate, became a priority.
Reimagining the Loft Space for Family Living
The original design planned for the loft to be divided into two smaller box rooms. However, once we constructed the dormers and laid temporary flooring, it was clear that this layout wouldn't fully maximize the space or meet the family's long-term needs. After consulting with the client, we re-envisioned the layout to create a single, spacious master bedroom paired with a separate shower room on the third floor. This solution offered the growing family a functional, comfortable space that could evolve with them.
Attention to Detail in Finishes
Preserving the character of the home was essential to the client, so we ensured that every detail adhered to the existing aesthetic. All doors were upgraded to fire-rated doors for enhanced safety without sacrificing style. To maintain visual continuity, we bespoke-made the skirting and architrave to match the original design seamlessly. This meticulous approach ensured that the new loft space felt like a natural extension of the property.
Craftsmanship Balancing Safety and Style
Our work balanced modern safety standards with a deep respect for period features. The installation of fire-rated doors enhanced the home's safety, while reclaimed slate roofing maintained the visual appeal and sustainability. This approach showcased our commitment to craftsmanship, allowing the client to enjoy a stylish, functional space that met their family's needs and honored the home's heritage.
